Suffering depression is a silent daily challenge for many people around the world. But, could there be benefits of spirituality on depression?
I’ve personally suffered from clinical depression most of my life, and many of my clients were challenged with mental health issues also.
The feeling of depression is like being trapped in an invisible bubble, suddenly you’re unable to participate in life anymore.
It’s a feeling of complete hopelessness, and often wondering why life exists if there is so much suffering in the world.
With depression becoming the most common mental health issue in the world, it’s no wonder people are seeking answers outside mainstream science.
One day after trying natural remedies for my own depression, I had my first spiritual awakening. It was the moment I wasn’t controlled by depression anymore.
Often depression can be a signal that something is out of alignment in your life. And, there were many natural alternatives that I never even knew existed.
The antidepressants which my doctor prescribed were just masking the problem, rather than healing the root cause of my depression.

When asking my doctor about these natural treatments, I was quickly told they had no scientific evidence & could be more harm than good.

At the same time, you don’t feel the pressure of life you felt before a spiritual awakening.
You have a sense of knowing that life shouldn’t be taken so seriously. And, everything will be fine in the end.

Often, anxious feelings and anxiety comes with depression.
When you spiritually awaken, you feel a sense of calm which you haven’t experienced before.
The benefits of meditation combined with being more mindful in everyday life, helps remove anxiety.
Having a spiritual awakening helps quieten the ego-mind, giving you freedom from intrusive thoughts.
Therefore, having less attachment to your thoughts and ego gives you more control over your mental state & develops emotional intelligence.
3. Stronger Connection With People
One of the benefits of spirituality on depression is you feel a stronger connection with people.
And a level of empathy you never knew existed inside you.
When you are in a state of depression, you feel lonely and hopeless.
After having a spiritual awakening, you feel like you and everyone in the world come from the one source.
The only separation you feel is the illusion of the ego-mind. And, all suffering stems from this belief in a separate self.
You now feel obligated to help people, whether it be starving children or refugees in war-stricken countries.
You feel like governments and different cultures/religions should be working together to solve these global problems.
International conflict and war now seems very egocentric and childish.
4. Emotions Are Under Control
When you’re depressed, your emotions are dulled down. There’s no feeling happy, similarly, there’s also no feeling sad.
It’s like your body’s emotional energy has been weakened, which gives the feeling of disconnect from reality.
When you have a spiritual awakening, suddenly you feel all your emotions again.
The only difference is now you have control of your emotions, and you don’t attach yourself to them.
It doesn’t matter if you feel sad or happy, you know this is all part of your journey from the perspective of an ego-mind.
5. Less Stress
Interesting studies have found that spirituality has a positive impact on stress levels associated with mental health.
Depression often brings a level of stress into your life which can be overwhelming.
When you have regular spiritual practices in your schedule, your stress management becomes a lot easier to handle.
Having a spiritual understanding of your existence gives you a new outlook on life.
And, a new way to handle any stressful situations life throws your way.
6. Better Physical Health
Depression will make you want to stay in bed all day, every day.
And, following a regular schedule for an exercise plan is a significant challenge.
When you integrate regular spiritual practice into your life, you find a new energy for exercise.

Not only do you have increased energy, but you want to be physically healthy.
Your dieting mindset is less of a problem, because you truly want to fill your body with natural unprocessed whole foods.
You understand the importance of a healthy physical body and the spiritual reasons for not losing weight.
7. You Feel Happy Again
When you start practicing spirituality regularly, you begin to feel genuinely happy again.
When the energy body (also known as the biofield) has an emotional blockage, the physical body will show the signs through mental or physical disease.
Regular spiritual practice helps you let go of this emotional energy.
Being depressed deprives you of feeling happy with life. And, becoming spiritually awake allows this happiness to flow naturally again.
Similar to when you were a child, you start to feel happy and it’s for no particular reason.
Your emotions aren’t a mess of blocked energy throughout the body anymore. Your emotions can finally flow freely and naturally.
In conclusion, there are many people worldwide suffering from depression.
And, also many benefits of spirituality on depression.
It’s important to follow your doctor’s recommendations, but there’s no reason why you can’t also try alternative spiritual treatments.
If I just listened to my doctor’s advice, I’m not sure where I would be today.
